Our Academy programs are designed for the player looking to be challenged within the sport and advance their skills to the next level. Academy players train regularly to develop their soccer skills and training habits which will enable them to acquire a sense of mastery and competence, thus producing a confident individual able to compete against the highest level of competition from across the state and throughout the region.
The DSC is committed to providing our players a competitive and enjoyable training environment on a year round basis. Our training schedule is comprised of three seasons throughout the year: Fall / Winter / Spring-Summer. Players in the DSC are provided the opportunity to train twice per week throughout each season, typically occurring Monday - Thursday, in 1.5 hour sessions between the hours of 5-8pm (training times are subject to change based upon team and coach availability). The training schedule is supplemented by league matches, tournaments, friendlies, and festivals typically held on various weekends throughout the season. Travel is required in the Academy program, and families should expect to travel 60-90 miles (sometimes further for the older age groups) for league games and to the surrounding states for tournaments.
General season breakdown:
The annual open house and player placement event, held the third week of June, is required for all players interested in the Academy program. If you are interested in joining and are unable to attend this event or are requesting to join mid year, please contact the Director of Coaching.
Youth Academy is where our U8-U10 players are introduced to a competitive training environment. The success of our Youth Academy is not measured by a number of wins, but rather on the successful development of an individual's understanding of the game. Free play, creativity and having fun while playing at this level is encouraged. Our U8-U10 players will participate in the Eastern Iowa Youth Soccer League.
Junior Academy is for players in their U11-U15 playing years. The program introduces the 11v11 game with the beginning of tactical decision making and systems of play. Our program employs a heavy focus on technique with a high priority on functional training, responsibilities of individual positions, and team dynamics. Our U11-U12 players will participate in the Eastern Iowa Youth Soccer League and our U13-U15 players will participate in the Iowa Soccer League.
Senior Academy is for players in the U15-U18 age group, and is the final phase our training curriculum for the youth player. Players at this level are given clear expectations within the framework of our philosophy, and are expected to implement our standards both on and off the field. Senior Academy players are expected to push themselves independently of the training sessions, while balancing the responsibilities of soccer, high school, and work. Our U15-U18 players will participate in the Iowa Soccer League.
